Reading Exercise - 8os anos

Swimming without a leg

Carmem Souza, a 19-year-old Brazilian swimmer, was only fourteen when she lost her right leg in a car accident. Her father was taking her to a training session at the swimming pool when a very big truck hit their car. Her leg had to be amputated but she didn’t lose her motivation. It was very hard during the first year, she cried a lot but her father was always helping her. In fact he blamed himself for the accident. After one year she started to compete again. Nowadays the skinny girl from Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, is the most promising swimmer in the National Paralympic Games. She is training hard for it. It is going to be in Brasília next month. Her dream is to swim faster than she did before the accident and to prove that is possible to overcome serious problems like hers. She said: “Never give up!”
